Dear Fellow Lions:
It has been my honor to serve as your President 2009-2010. I would like to thank all the members who have helped out during the course of this past year as it would not have been possible without your continued commitment to the Lions Club of Barre. I am proud to have served as the president of this fine group of individuals. This past year has more than solidified my appreciation for what our club does for our community.
Although, we were not able to increase our membership, it is clear that we need new members to sustain our various programs and our vitality. We must strive to seek new members where ever we can as part of our ongoing goal to sustain the club’s strength in the years to come.
This year we achieved many things including our Hundred Ball Raffle, preparing for the upcoming Kellie Trottier Concert, providing charitable funding to our service men and women through our Christmas tree sales, providing over one hundred members of the community with sight and hearing assistance, and assisting countless hundreds of people in third world countries with the donation of used glasses through the Lions International Recycling Program.
During this year I am proud to state that we have maintained our vision and an unyielding commitment to supporting the charitable needs of our community. As the club develops its goals and objectives for the new 2010-2011 club year, it is clear that we must continue to resolve ourselves to increasing our membership. We must also prepare the club for additional community involvement. Both these goals should be high priorities for our new President and Board.
We have some unique features that I would like to point out about our Barre Lions Club. In seventy-two years, we have never had a repeat president or an individual that has repeated as president in this club. We are also involved in the Joint Services Committee with the other service organizations of Kiwanis, Rotary and Altrusa. We are the only group in the state of Vermont that honors volunteer members of the community for their service to others. This project also serves as a fund raiser for the Aldrich Library. I feel this serves the common good of the residents of our Greater Barre area and it shows great character and spirit.
Please join me in encouraging and supporting our new King Lion Kim Magoon in whatever way we can as we begin our 72nd year as a club.
