My
Fellow Lions
Dear
Fellow Barre Lions:
As your
new King Lion, I look forward to a year of challenges in the year
ahead. The club needs
to focus on membership development and recruiting. We need to continue our
strength of fundraising for our various charitable works including
the Sight and Hearing Fund and local scholarships. We have done, and continue
to do a lot of good work for both the sight and hearing impaired and
the other charitable needs of Central Vermont.
It has
been my pleasure to serve as your Vice President during the
2008-2009 and work closely with King Lion Rick Theken. The past year has involved a
great deal of work on the part of our most active members as well as
many of the members we don’t always see at lunch each week. Everyone has pulled
together to serve the needs that our club provides for the greater
Barre community. Our
Gallaudet Dance Production in May was a great success.
During
the past year, I served on the Joint Service Committee which reviews
and recognizes individuals for their volunteer service throughout
the greater Barre area.
I have worked side by side with many of you on our fund
raising events and projects.
I have worked with the officers of the club to maintain goals
and objectives for the Barre Lions Club programs. In this time of difficult
finances, it becomes increasingly important to focus on Sight &
Hearing which remains the primary mission of the organization.
This
year has not only resulted in a decline in membership, but our group
continues to see the average age of its members increase. Our group needs to recruit
new and vital members who are able to support the group with
service. We need to do
it at a time when volunteer and service groups everywhere are
finding it increasingly difficult to maintain membership. We need to be able to find
new members who are willing to step forward to serve the
community. These people
will also need to fill roles of officers for future leadership and
strength of the Barre Lions Club.
In the
coming year I look forward to establishing a strong core of future
officers and improve the membership picture. Our fund raising program
needs to be consistent.
Our
Executive Board and I will continue to need everyone’s help if we
are to maintain our vision for serving the needs of our
community. Let’s make
the 71st year of our club one of commitment and one we can be proud
of.
